Curaçao is currently an independent country that belongs to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Curaçao used to be a colony of the Netherlands. The island was divided among private owners who managed plantations. Houses were built on these plantations so that the owners and family could live here. Almost all plantation houses are built on a hill so that they had a good overview of the plantation.
When slavery was abolished many plantations had to close. They ran out of slaves to do the hard labor, which made the plantation houses no longer important. After many plantation houses had expired, it was decided to refurbish these 'Country houses' because this is characteristic of the history of Curaçao. It is therefore also very interesting to visit these country houses during your stay on Curaçao. In this way you get to know the history of Curaçao well, but also to form an image.
