Optics Oduber & Kan
It all started in 1952 when the Jewish Dutchman Mr. May immigrated to Aruba. He was a jeweler by trade and a true craftsman. At the time, Aruba had only one optician on the island, named Mr. Oduber. A combination of optics and jewelery was very common at the time.
Thus, in 1953, Messrs Oduber and Kan opened the first Oduber & Kan store, in Aruba. In November 1958, the two decided to grow and opened a branch in Curaçao. The branch was located in Punda, where almost all shops were located at the time.
In 1979 Optica Oduber & Kan was one of the first stores to move from Helfrichplein to Saliña. As a result, customers no longer had to go all the way to the city, where parking was difficult. They could park their car in front of the door when they visited the optician. Many other stores soon followed to the new and more accessible location.
In 1997 Pieter van Thiel took over the company. Optica Oduber & Kan is a household name on the island with over 60 years of experience. Craftsmanship, customer focus, fashion and the good atmosphere form the whole of our company.
